Family of Thomas BRIGDON (B6) and
Sarah GREENWAY
B9 Thomas BRIGDON
Born on 19 July 1782.
On 18 April 1805 when Thomas was 22, he married Ann COOMBER, in
Cuckfield, Sussex.
They had the following children:

Family of Henry BRIGDON (B8) and Mary
B10 Charles BRIGDON
Born in 1808 in Cuckfield, Sussex. Charles was baptized in Cuckfield, Sussex
on 6 December 1808. Charles died on 1 September 1869, at the age of 60 at Brook
Street, Cuckfield, Sussex. The death certificate gave the cause of death as
"Natural Decay".
Occupation: Agricultural Labourer
In the parish record of Charles's baptism, the name is spelt BRIGDON, but
the marriage entry is BRIGDEN. His son and subsequent generations used the
spelling BRIGDEN.
In 1831 when Charles was 23, he married Sarah NORRIS, in Cuckfield,
Sussex.
Sarah was the daughter of Daniel NORRIS and Elizabeth. Sarah was born
on 7 July 1811 in South Bersted, Sussex. Sarah died on 24 March 1878 at
the age of 67 at Church Street, Cuckfield. Her daughter Mary Ann was
present at the death.
They had the following children:

James (1833-?)
- James is recorded in the 1841 Census living
with his parents in Cuckfield. In the 1881 Census he is recorded as a widower
living on his own at 85 Malham Road, Lewisham, Kent. He was a labourer.
Edward (1836-?)
- Edward is recorded in the 1841, 1851 and 1861
Census living with his parents in Cuckfield. He was a labourer.
B12 Stephen (1837 Cuckfield ->1891)
Sidney (1838-?)
- Sidney is recorded in the 1841 and 1851 Census
living with his parents in Cuckfield. He was a bricklayer's labourer..
Edwin (1839-?)
- Edwin is recorded in the 1841 and 1851 Census
living with his parents in Cuckfield. He was a bricklayer. In the 1881 Census
is recorded living at 4 Emma Cottages, Perry Vale, Lewisham. Kent aged 42 with
his wife Sarah and children: Edwin, Frederick, Ellen, William and Clara.
Charles (1841-?)
- Charles is recorded in the 1841, 1851 and 1861
Census living with his parents in Cuckfield. He was an agricultural worker.
Albert (1843-1893)
- Albert is recorded in the 1851 and 1861 Census
living with his parents in Cuckfield. He was an agricultural labourer. In 1881
he was living with his sister Mary and her husband Albert Hall and family at
High Street, Cuckfield.
Louisa (1846-?)
- Louisa is recorded in the 1851 and 1861
Census living with her parents in Cuckfield. In the 1881 Census she is recorded
aged 39 living with her widowed mother Sarah at High Street Cuckfield. Her
occupation is described as Fancy Repository Saddler employing one man and an
apprentice.

Mary Ann (1850-1921)
- Mary Ann is recorded in the 1851 and 1861 Census
living with her parents in Cuckfield. She married Albert HALL and had children
Charles, Sarah, Emily Albert and twins Alice and Annie, Helena and George. In
1881 Census she is living with her husband Albert HALL and family and brothers Albert and
George at High Street, Cuckfield. In the 1901 Census her family are living at
2 Whitemans Green, Cuckfield. Her great grand-daughter Kay Cullen is now
researching this family.
George (1853-1915)
- George is recorded in the 1861 Census living
with his parents in Cuckfield. He was a bricklayer's labourer. In 1881 he was
living with his sister Mary Ann and her husband Albert HALL. In the 1901
Census he appears living in Cuckfield, aged 54, with his wife Elizabeth.
Charles is recorded in the 1841, 1851
and 1861 Census living in High Street, Cuckfield with his wife and children.
The 1841 entry shows his neighbours as Stephen and May Harrison, Innkeepers,
so maybe he lived next to an Inn.

four families. It is the story of my father's parents, Brigden and Chapman, and
my mother's parents, Crowhurst and Plowman.
