Second Generation

Family of Cornelius CROWHURST (E1) and Elizabeth

E3 Francis Messenger CROWHURST

Born in 1826 in Launceston Cornwall.

Recorded residing at 4 Grosvenor Cottages, Milbrook Road, Brixton in 1862; and at 23 Effa Parade, Lambeth, Surrey in 1881.

He had died by 1901  as his wife is listed as a widow in the 1901 Census.

Occupation: Journeyman carpenter.

About 1861 when Francis was 35, he married Mary Frances MILBOROW.

Mary Francis was the daughter of Thomas MILBOROW (1803-) and Mary GREEN (about 1805-). She was born in 1826 in Clapham London and christened on 26 November 1826 at Holy Trinity, Clapham, Surrey.

Mary does not appear in the 1881 Census, but is recorded in the 1901 Census as widow, aged 74 living at 1 Southfield Road, Acton with her daughters Catherine, 36, Rose, 30 and grandson Herbert, 13.

They had three children:

E4 Francis (1862-1911)

Catherine (1865)

Rose (1871)

Francis is listed in the 1841 Census living in Launceston, St Mary Magdalene, aged 15. His occupation was described as a Draper.

He is listed in the 1881 Census, aged 55, as a Boarder at 23 Effa Parade, Lambeth (next door to the Cartwright family at no. 21). With him is his son Francis Junior, 19. William Waters owns the property, a carpenter from Diss, Norfolk.

According to the 1841 Cornwall census Francis was born in Launceston, Cornwall. This census does not give precise details of addresses but the position of the entry on the enumerator’s sheets indicates that Francis was living in or near St Thomas Hill,
