The GREEN Family

F1 Thomas GREEN

Born about 1816.

About 1836 when Thomas was 20, he married Harriet TWIGG She was born about 1818.

They had one child:

F2 Edward Dinnis (1837-1929)

F2 Edward Dinnis GREEN

Born in 1837 in Exeter, Devon.

Recorded residing at 6 Oak Terrace, Riddlesdown Road, Croydon in 1881; and at 9 Purley Road, Croydon in 1891.

Occupation: Carpenter.

On 17 July 1853 when Edward Dinnis was 16, he married Mary Ann JORDAN, in Seaford, Sussex.

Mary Ann was born in 1838 in Chelsham.

Mary Ann died in 1928, at the age of 90. She was buried in July 1928 in Mitcham Road Cemetery Croydon.

They had the following children:

Fanny R (1857 Chelsham -)

William C (1863 Warlingham -). Occupation: Labourer

Edward A. (1865 Dorchester -) Occupation: Labourer.

F3 Mary Ellen (1869 Chelsham –1937 Croydon)

Louise J. (1872 Chelsham -)

George J (1874 Shipley, Derby -)

Elizabeth A (1877 Ilkeston, Derby -) Resided in Oval Road, Croydon.

Richard H. (1880 Coulsdon, Surrey)

Lilly (1894 Purley, Surrey -)

Jamie (1887 Purley -)

Edward is listed in the 1891 Census living at 9 Purley Road, Croydon at age of 53 with wife Mary, 50, and children Elizabeth, 14, Richard, 10, Lilly, 7 and James 4. The birthplaces of his children indicate that he probably moved around the country seeking work as a carpenter, as he worked in Kent, Surrey, Derbyshire and Hampshire at various times.

Edward Dinnis died in 1929, at the age of 92. He was buried in 1929 in Plot 14071, Mitcham Road Cemetery Croydon. E J Morgan of South End, Croydon, arranged his funeral. ".. a polished elm coffin, brassed handles, lid ornaments and name plate .. Three carriages and pairs." The funeral cost £22.00.

F3 Mary Ellen GREEN

Mary Ellen married Henry William CHPAMAN about 1891.
