J Brian Brigden

I am looking for my families roots. I am at least A forth generation Canadian with my great grandfather Henry Brigden of Roslin Ontario Canada

Ryan Brigden

I am just interested in finding out about my family history whatever it may be, although I don't know a lot of info to help me. My father is a Robert, his father is Robert, and so on, but seems to be a lot of Robert Brigdens throughout the ages, making it hard. Anyway, I am in Vancouver , but was born in Calgary . I am under the impression that my family has been in Alberta , for some time, but may have been in Ontario as well, England before that. If anyone could email me any helpful info, or contacts, that would be great, thanks a lot Ryan Brigden

Ruthe Swindell

You have done a great job with the website. Is there a Harwood Brigden anywhere in the forest? He was my grandfather.

Dennis Brown

Did any of your Brigdens settle in Northern Ohio ? You have a nice looking and sounding site.

J D H Carter

My great grandmother was Amelia BRIGDEN (1843-1926)born in St Pancras (London) to William Brigden and Ann (nee PAYTON) he was born c 1818 in Kent Road, Surrey, died 1861 - occupation Cow Keeper as was his father Benjamin BRIGDEN born Hadlow 1796 died Shoreditch 1871. Research reflects that Benjamin was 2nd born to Joseph & Mary who (if correct!) were married in East Peckham which is adjacent parish. Do I have any currently unknown family connections out there?

Thomas Geoffrey Brigden

Hello. I was very interested to see some of my family history on your website and especially the wedding photo of my grandparents which I haven’t seen before. If you need any photos of us to add then get in touch and ill send you some. Many thanks. Tom

Peter Brigden

Fascinating. I am the grandson of Harry James Brigden born in Sydney , Australia .

Lorna Brigden

I enjoyed reading your website; I have been researching my husband's family tree since 1988 when our son was born as he is the last Brigden in his line. On your tree you mention Percy Brigden he was my husband's grandfather, George his Gt grandfather. George's father and mother were Joseph and Sarah-Ann Brigden Saddlers High Street Cuckfield. You also have Sarah Ann's death attended by her daughter Louisa a fancy saddler. I can send you details of their families if you want me to. I have details of the other George Brigden who was a tailor and lived in Brighton . The best way to send these details is probably through the post, if you would like me to forward them please can I have your address. PS. our branch of the family also moved from Cuckfield to Croydon, we actually got married in Beddington in 1971, and then moved to Norfolk . Looking forward to hearing from you. Lorna Brigden.

Nigel Turner

Fascinating piece of history. I was hoping to find reference to my family 'The Cookes' who lived at 45 Beatrice Avenue in 1949. I thoroughly enjoyed the content. Thank you.

Mark Brigden

Just found this website with my name on it, wondered if any of the information was related to me. Most of us live in Bracknell , Berks. 'Brigden' Family members are out there somewhere. Can you help?

Michele Brigden Elborough

It was interesting going through your website. My maiden name is Brigden and I have a family tree that does not seem to connect to yours. I am a descendant of James Brigden (b. 1725) who married Elizabeth Holaby in 1746. Their son John (b.1751) had a son, John (b. 1776) and he had a son John (b.1801) who had a son, Richard Henry Brigden (b.1823) who was my great grandfather. He emigrated to Australia with his brother William George Brigden. Do you know how I am related to the branch of the family detailed in this website?

Alexander James Brigden

The Alexander comes from my mothers side however I was named after my grandfather Harry James Brigden who spent much of his life in Wahroonga a northern suburb of Sydney. My Father was the eldest brother of a family including himself - Norman Laurence, Frank, David Neil (known as Neil and the father of Peter) Marjorie and Harry Graham who was known as graham till adulthood and then worked and was know as Harry - he has a son Scot Harry now known as Harry, who also has a son Harry the majority of Harry James Brigden's sons were or are Chartered Accountants as was he. Marjorie (Goldrick) nee Brigden has done considerable work on our family tree. Harry James Brigden served in the two world wars as a lieutenant and then in WW2 he was promoted to Field Officer Rank of Lieutenant Colonel he served on a number of boards of companies as director and managing director

Alan Brigden

Found your page and had a look, as you can see my surname is part of your site, I have done some of my own tracking of my family name & have been able to follow it back over 4 generations and they have all been around north Kent, my grandfather being George and great grandfather being Silven.

Jacqui Jackson

I have seen your web-site several times - my great grandmother was a Brigden, daughter of  William Brigden.   I believe this William was born in 1807.   I have a copy of what I believe to be this William's death certificate, showing that he died a rather grisly death in a railway accident.   He, like many of your Brigdens, worked on the railway.

  Jan Mizen

I have just seen your website on the Brigden Family and am fascinated. I have been trying to trace my grandfather's family, but have run into difficulties and wonder if you can assist me. My grandfather was Harry Brigden, born in Hadlow Kent about 1887. He died I think about 1919 of TB. He was married to Ada French of Essex. According to the 1901 Census he was living with Percy Marshall, His wife Edith Marshall and their children. I know this is the correct family as I remember their daughter Gertrude Marshall very well. I do not seem to be able to trace details of Harry's parents and your Brigden Family Website has obviously had a lot of research. Have you please come across any trace of my grandfather or his parents.

Adam Brigden

Hi, As you can gather from my name, I'm a Brigden. I am son of Anthony (Tony) William, born 13/03/1942 East London, who is son of Alfred William Brigden born 23/5/1912

Clive Brigden

Assize Roll info is from Chancery Lane Records Office in London. I searched this 20 years ago - they are original records recording property of sufficient size to warrant the Kings taxes. You can't make copies. There were also a few wills from Brigdens of the 16th century in Sussex obtained from Lewes Public Records Office. I have visited the Brigden farms mentioned in 1296. (sorry I got the date wrong earlier) 1 is still called Brigden Hill Farm - a herd of fries an cattle is named as Brigden Friesians from this farm. It is west of Battle. I believe you mention this as Brigdon Hill on your site. The other is near Glynde, outside Lewes, East Sussex & is called Brigden Farm. They were owned by 2 brothers, Robert & John Brigden who seemed to have lost the farms by the time of the next major assize. These are the earliest correct named Brigdens I could find.

Grossmith Family

Robin Hill

Great website. Was chasing info on Grossmith family but unable to link my line to yours (yet) my ancestor was Maria Grossmith b.3 Nov 1811 Portsea, Hampshire. Her father Robert G. b1763, mother Ann Bricknell. Love to hear from anyone who can help.

David Freegrove

A great site, if anyone has any info on Minnie Freegrove who married Albert Edward Grossmith in 1911 I would be grateful, thanks.

Roger Pyke

My grandmother on my father's side was Beatrice Grossmith. She was born in London in 1867. She married my grandfather, David Edward Pyke. (Date unknown) My father, Reginald Charles Pyke, was born in Paddington in 1910 (yes, she was 43) I was born in Greenford, Middlesex. The interesting part is that Beatrice Grossmith's father is listed in a census as being Jesse Grossmith - a waiter - connecting to the family tree that you have. But family anecdote has it that the Grossmiths were originally Jewish. Roger Pyke Toronto

Michael Porter

My wife's grandfather was a Grossmith, the John Henry born in 1874. We should be very interested to hear of any further results of you researches.

Petra Court

An excellent site, kudo's for all the hard work done. My dear friend is a Grossmith who claims decendency from the actor George. I am trying to get more details about his family; mayhap you are related after all ~smiles~ keep up the good work and thank you so much for sharing.

Debbie Blanzy

Fascinating reading, My Great Grandmother was a Grossmith her name was Rozena Grossmith, born around circ. 1890 and lived in Bedfordshire, nothing is known about where she came from, we know she had one sister Minnie, maybe she had more sisters and brothers but we do not know, really enjoyed the meaning of the name. Regards Debbie

Carol Ann Slater

I have just visited your website on the grossmith family and with great exictment because I am the granddaughter of Florence Mary Grossmith (1883-1954) who married Alfred her cousin  My cousin has been researching the family for years and she will also be excited with your work.

Ian Hillier

Interesting web site. We share ancestors – my family branch away with George – 1805. It would be interesting to know where all the money came from. By the 1840’s the family were very wealthy – the 3 sons all had their own businesses and left significant sums to a series of maiden aunts who then spent it over their lives. Is there any evidence of wealth earlier in the history of the family? Your comment about Jewish Germans is also interesting. My late Mother also had the same story!

Plowman Family

Judith Russell

Hallo. I have been researching the Plowmans of Surrey for 15 years or so, and can trace my line back to William (1715-1793) and Susanna, through their son George (1741/2 and Ann Grigg) and their daughter Ann (1775-184- ). She married John Brown in Croydon in 1803, and their son, William, born 1805, was my 3xGt.Grandfather, and was, incidentally one of the last Bow Street Runners. Am not convinced that William the first was the son of John (1673-1745/6) and Elizabeth, but probably was. Both their sons called William dies young, in 1706 and 1710. I believe John to be the son of William Plowman, a blacksmith of Cheam who died in 1689/90, and his wife Jane Fenton, widow, who he married in 1665 at Cheam. He left a will. Have some details of 17thC Plowman in N.Surrey, but haven’t been able to tie them in, and have no idea where William of Cheam came from. Maybe manorial records could help? Would welcome a reply to this! Judith

Mike Plowman

I've been researching my family tree for the last few years and have gone back to early 1800's in St Pancras (James Plowman married Sarah Ewes 30 Sep 1821). Having looked at your names I can't as yet tie us together, but interestingly I was born in Sutton and we lived in Carshalton for 10 years prior to moving down to Devon this year!!

John F. Plowman

Looking for more Plowmans -- our family originated in Illinois . My grandfather's name was Cyrus Edward Plowman.

Sheelagh Fowler

I was interested to read your Plowman Family Tree, as my husband is descended from Lydia Agnes Plowman, daughter of Joseph Plowman.   They lived in Chatham, Kent but I have been unable to trace them any further than that.   Joseph was much older than his wife, and they had 4 daughters.   One died in infancy, at the same time as Lydia's mother.   Within the period of the next 10 years before the 1901 census both the other sisters had left home and gone into service in distant parts of the company.   Lydia was not brought up by her father who eventually married again.   I was interested to note the incidence of Diabetes in the family, as both my husband and his sister have this condition.

Joan Ames

I am one  William Georges Plowman`s  Great grand children. Could you please tell me if you have any other information on the rest of his children. As I am  one of Philip Plowman`s Granddaughter`s and his children are all gone now so we have no to asked. I have the  all census even found one for 1891 say his name was Philip Plowman married a Amelia Bance. In  the 1891 census he was living a Palmerton Road Wimbledon surrey, and his daughter Amelia was worked just a few minutes away.
But I still cannot find what happen to his brother John who went off to Australia brother Thomas and his other sister Ann.

He was the secretary of the Reedham School run by the Stock Exchange for orphans of members Also more on my wife's side.

Hi what a great site! I am wondering if there is any connection with what I know about my father and his family. Dad was born Ian Frederick Crowhurst in 1939 to Ivy and Frederick. I know he also had a brother John and a sister Jean. Dad was fostered (hence the surname Donaghy). He emigrated to New Zealand (my dad) and his four sons are keen to trace the Crowhurst family.

Just searching the web and found your site, very interesting. I am not sure if my branch of the Crowhurst family is the same but interesting that we were all brought up in and around Tooting and South London . Peter Crowhurst

Very interesting web site. I'm a Crowhurst, born on the Isle of Wight, father from London , a dental surgeon, and mother, a nurse, from Hampshire. This branch of the Crowhurst family has an Asian twist, I'm married to a Singaporean and have one son, and we are currently based in Shanghai , China .

Valerie Atkins

My son’s last name is Crowhurst - his grandfather would have been William Frank (or Frank William)and passed away approx. 33 years ago - trying to get my son some of his family history to pass on to his son (another Crowhurst) Any info you could supply would be appreciated. Regards, Valerie Atkins

Peter Crowhurst

Very interesting site. My Mother Mrs D Crowhurst is still alive and well. Celebrated her 100th birthday on March 18th 2004. She still lives on her own in Portslade Sussex . I live in East Grinstead not far from the village of Crowhurst .

Alastair Crowhurst

Hi I am a Crowhurst too and did a "Google" search to discover your site - I am not sure if our families are connected at all, or whether there are lots of people by the same name who aren't related - I suspect there must be - but I thought I would send you an email if per chance we were and it helps you? My sister, Alexandra Jane Crowhurst and I are children of April Hilary Wood who married and has since divorced our father, Christopher John Deavin Crowhurst, who was born in 1940 as the son of Kenneth G Deavin Crowhurst, (who was a Met Policeman), married to Margaret Spiers. The family has been living in Surrey and/or London , for as long as I know. Anyway, that is enough for you to work out whether there is a connection I guess. If there isn’t then I apologise for wasting your time, but all good fun I guess! Kind regards Alastair Crowhurst.

John Arthur Crowhurst

Have just come across your excellent site. My name is John Arthur Crowhurst and I see my son Peter, from the Isle of Wight (with the "Asian Twist") has already left a reference.
My father was Arthur Frederic - note the spelling - and Mother Winifred Mary, nee Hatswell. His father was Frederic James Crowhurst was a schoolmaster who, sadly, died of wounds sustained during the first world war, and Mother Ellen, nee Briggs  lived at Truro Road, Bounds Green, North London.  They also had a daughter, my Aunt Doris, who did not marry. I have no idea where we fit into the Clan Crowhurst but I do remember once visiting some, I presume, cousins in South Croydon when we were living in Purley. I think he was referred to as Uncle Charlie, they had a daughter, Dorothy.  This was in the 1950s.

David Philips

I have just found this site whilst "Googling" Crowhurst. I noticed that a Jeremy Crowhurst was interested in those from Framfield, Sussex. My Crowhurst ancestor ( paternal gggrandmother ) was from there and so, if not too out of date by now, would like to make contact for a possible exchange of info. I would appreciate it if you could put me in contact with him or vice versa. david.phillips543@ntlworld.com

Keren Crowhurst

My name is Keren Crowhurst.  My great-grandfather Harry Richard Crowhurst was born in Carshalton, Surrey on 1 January 1874.

I would love to know if we are related.  This is a wonderful site!
